NTK's premium ceramics assure the user greater productivity thanks to superior high-temperature hardness, heat resistance, and chemical stability. Some of the advantages of ceramics are high hardness at high temps giving excellent wear resistance at high speeds and allowing low impact in relation to bending strength allowing stable machining at high speeds.
Insert types: White Alumina, Black Alumina (TiC), Reinforced Silicon Carbide Filler (SiC whiskers), Nitrite Silicon, SiAlON (Silicon Nitride with Al-O)
- Alumina-based ceramics (White ceramics) / ForGray Cast Iron. High oxidation resistance and adhesion resistance. This ceramic is best suited for high-speed cutting applications where the cutting temperature tends to be high with no coolant. Varieties of Alumina ceramics: HC1 (high speed finishing) / HW2 (high toughness roughing / finishing). |
- Alumina TiC-based ceramics (Black ceramics) / ForGray Cast Iron, Ductile Cast Iron, Hardened Materials, Mill Rolls. Alumina TiC-based ceramics are strengthened by adding hard carbide to highly pure alumina; hardness and toughness have been improved which enables the machining of partially interrupted cuts thanks to high-hot hardness and low plasticity Varieties of Black ceramics: HC2 (standard machining), HC5 (mill rolling), HC6 (ductile cast iron machining), ZC4/ZC7/HC7 (hardened materials turning). |
- Whisker-reinforced ceramics / ForHeat Resistant Alloys, Gray Cast Iron, Hardened Materials, Mill Rolls. Whisker-reinforced (WA1) ceramic grade has a unique combination of superior wear resistance, toughness, and flaking resistance as a result of adding SiC whiskers to Alumina. WA1 is primarily used in machining continuous cuts of aerospace alloys and to machine gray cast iron and hardened steels because of its excellent thermal shock resistance. Applications: turning roughing, profiling, grooving, finishing; milling roughing, semi-finish. |
- Silicon nitride-based ceramics SiN / For Gray Cast Iron, Ductile Cast Iron, Heat Resistant Alloys Roughing. Silicon nitride-based ceramics have approximately twice the fracture toughness of alumina-based ceramics. SiN ceramic enables the user to perform productive high-speed machining where traditional ceramic grades could not. Varieties of SiN ceramics: SX6 (premium roughing), SP9 (high-speed machining roughing, finishing). |
- SiAlON / For High-Temperature Alloys SiAlON ceramic offers excellent heat resistance, thermal shock/wear resistance, and mechanical strength under high-temperature conditions. SiAlON shows superb performance in high-speed machining of high-temperature alloys. Varieties of SiAlON ceramics: SX3 for next-gen HRSA materials (roughing, grooving, profiling), SX7 better notch and wear resistance for high-speed machining, SX9 best for Inconel 718, SX5 toughest grade on market for heavy interruption and WASPALOY. |
