Thin-walled cylindrical work-pieces are easily deformed or deflected even by a small gripping, cutting, or centrifugal force, so they require difficult cutting conditions and many finishing processes. When the Multi Jaw (MUL) type Chuck adopts many clamping points and spiked jaw tips, a small force on each point can provide a strong clamping torque. UBL and Multi-Jaw Combined Chucks are also available for operations as heavy vertical lathe turning or working on pieces like 'brake drums'.
Both the pushing force and the distance between the jaws at each clamping portion of the MUL [24 points clamping] are only a quarter of the UBL's [6 points clamping].
The MUL mandrel has a floating mechanism that allows the surface of the thin-walled cylindrical workpieces to be clamped with the same force and is effective for pieces of material of uneven material. In addition, the Multi-Jaws feature allows for a smooth and strong clamping torque without deforming the workpieces and also adding more rigidity in the processed part. It is then possible to obtain the precision of roundness in the first operation, even when molded and forged deformable molded parts are processed or pressed under pressure.
The Multi-Jaws function allows to have soft and strong clamping torque without deforming the work-pieces and also adds more rigidity on the processed portion. Then it is possible to obtain the roundness accuracy in the first operation even when processing deformable workpieces.
